SAFETY FACTS: CONCUSSION AWARENESS & MANAGEMENT
Head injuries, particularly concussions, have become an important focus within youth soccer. Early recognition and immediate rest are critical to proper recovery. If a concussion is suspected, the athlete should be removed from practices and games right away to prevent further injury. Both physical and cognitive rest play a key role in the healing process.
Injury Express providers follow strict concussion management guidelines for Chicago Inferno athletes, this includes: on field and in office testing, guidelines for a strict 5 day return to play and provide academic accommodations to support athletes in school. Parents should monitor athletes and look for warning signs including, but not limited to, headaches, vomiting, slurred speech, excessive fatigue, dizziness, and unequal pupil size.
At OrthoIllinois, concussion recovery focuses on proper hydration, quality sleep, and limiting screen time. Because every concussion is different, recovery timelines vary. Our physicians, physical therapists, and coaching staff work together to ensure athletes progress gradually and return to activity only when it is safe to do so.

ACL INJURY AWARENESS & PREVENTION
ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries are among the most common and serious injuries in soccer athletes. Many ACL injuries occur without contact and are often associated with movements such as landing from a jump, sudden deceleration, or rapid changes in direction.
Chicago Inferno training emphasizes proper warm-up routines and movement mechanics designed to reduce injury risk. The OrthoIllinois physical therapy team strongly encourages a continued focus on lower-extremity and core strengthening, improved balance, and proper plyometric training. Developing strength, stability, and agility is essential for supporting knee health and reducing the likelihood of ACL injuries.
By combining smart training strategies with early injury evaluation and expert rehabilitation, OrthoIllinois and Chicago Inferno work together to help athletes stay strong, resilient, and prepared for the demands of competitive soccer.
